The Great Berlin Wheel will begin operating in the heart of the former city of West Berlin,
at Hertzallee. This location, one of the most popular destinations for tourists in the city, boasts a vibrant
neighbourhood of businesses, restaurants and shops. Hertzallee is additionally an ideal venue for the Wheel
because of an abundance of public transportation in the neigh-
bourhood, as well as the world famous Ku´damm shopping
mall, which includes a large selection of hotels.
The Wheel will reach a height of 175 meters. It will house 28 air-
conditioned capsules and a terminal building,
referred to as the Departure Hall. Each of the 28 capsules will have capacity for 40 people, but they are designed
in order to accommodate special group needs, including meetings and receptions and other events. The Capsules will
be available for private rental.
The Wheel will move at a speed of 25 centimeters per second and the flight duration will be approximately 30 minutes
long. With its panoramic views of greater Berlin, passengers will learn about the history, architecture, cultural
and business life of the city through in-capsule monitors.
In order to offer a full compliment of services and opportunities for tourists, the Berlin Zoo and the Great Berlin
Wheel are colla-
borating on a project to entice more tourists and Berliners alike to the Hertzallee. Plans include a
joint price admission to both the Zoo and the Wheel. As part of this marketing effort, the govern-
ment of Berlin has
commissioned a report to highlight the positive impact that the Wheel will have on the Zoo
and other attractions in the area.
